Assoz. Prof.ⁱⁿ Dr.ⁱⁿ phil. Elke Zobl

Elke Zobl’s work focuses on participation, intervention and mediation processes in the context of art, culture and media. She is particularly interested in artistic and cultural practices that are oriented towards everyday and living worlds, and in the interfaces between society and culture.

Elke Zobl has been head of the Contemporary Art and Cultural Production focus area at the Inter-University Organization Science and Art, a cooperation between Paris-Lodron University and the University Mozarteum Salzburg, since 2010, as well as various third-party funded projects in the fields of research, science communication and culture, currently “Cultural Participation in Salzburg” and “Spaces of Cultural Democracy” (www.p-art-icipate.net). After studying Fine Arts Education in Sculpture, German Studies, and Art and Cultural Studies at the Universities of Salzburg and Vienna, Mozarteum Salzburg, Academy of Fine Arts, and Duke University (North Carolina, USA), she conducted research on alternative feminist media and transnational networks at the University of California San Diego (USA). Since 2017, she has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies and the Science and Arts concentration. As a cultural mediator, she conducts workshops with young people, offers continuing education for multipliers*, and is constantly developing artistic-educational mediation materials.
In 2010, she was awarded the Science Promotion Prize of the City of Salzburg. In 2018, she received the European Youth Culture Award in the category “Science and Research” from the Respekt! Foundation, Berlin.

Completed projects include: “Young women as creators of new cultural spaces” (FWF project, 2007-2011) and “Feminist Media Production in Europe” (FWF project, 2008-2012), “Making Art, Making Media, Making Change” (FWF science communication project, 2014-2015), “Making Art – Taking Part!” (Sparkling Science, 2014-2016)
