Greetings

Welcome to the Inter-University Organization Science and Arts

Science and Arts is a collaboration between the Paris Lodron University and the Mozarteum University.

In a city like Salzburg with its long musical and academic tradition, the mediation of science and the arts seems only logical and consistent. Salzburg is an ideal ground for such a collaboration, and it is obvious that a music university and a university with a strong humanities orientation should work closely together.

A balanced relationship between teaching – research – and public programs

We are not a field of study in the classic sense, with a focus on research. Science and Arts is positioned differently. We offer public programs and an extensive range of courses for students from both universities.

Our course offerings provide students from both universities with the opportunity to acquire key qualifications at the interface of science and the arts in the form of study supplements and a study focus. The offerings include the basic module “The Arts: Theories and Discourses” and the two study supplements “The Arts: Practice and Mediation” and “Cultural Management and Cultural Production”; building on this is the study focus “Art, Culture and its Mediation.”

In addition, Science and Arts offers a wide range of lectures, symposia and workshops, some of which are also open to the interested public. Particularly noteworthy is the public event series “S&A Forum,” which is conceived jointly by the three focus areas.

Scholars from both Salzburg universities want to further develop their relationship to practice. With the help of a joint curriculum, joint projects and events such as conferences, concerts or exhibitions, existing resources are bundled. The combination of specialist knowledge with specific research projects and collaborations with cultural and art institutions aims to achieve this.

In October 2019, the three focus areas were launched at Science and Arts:

Figurations of Transition

(Inter)Mediation. Music – Mediation – Context

Contemporary Art and Cultural Production

Also in October 2019, the third doctoral college, Art and Public Impact: Dynamics of Change, opened, with seven doctoral students over three years.

We invite you to get to know and make use of the extensive offerings of the Inter-University Organization Science and Arts.
