Wear your story, wear your heritage

SYMPOSIUM DAY ZERO – GUEST SESSION TWO
Weaving Tales of Identity, Culture, and Creativity through Fashion
Guest Input & Artist Conversation with Asiimwe Sanvura

This Guest Input explores the intersections of society, sustainability, and contemporary art through a lens of creative responsibility and cultural production. Focus will be on how artistic practices can become agents of ecological awareness, social reflection, and material innovation.
The fashion brand Sanvra redefines the way we think about fashion. Asiimwe Sanvura discusses the latest collection titled Olugoye Lwo – a Luganda phrase meaning “your garment” – which reflects on the social and environmental narratives woven into the materials we wear and the identities they shape. Olugoye Lwo is born from the unlikeliest of sources – pre-consumer textile waste offcuts from local manufacturing companies. Every time a garment is made, waste offcuts are produced. Waste is turned into wearable art. Each piece in this collection is a unique, sustainable masterpiece, crafted from discarded fabrics that would have otherwise ended up in landfills.
In this session, we discuss the methodologies behind this project and focus on the aspects of waste reduction, the promotion of eco-friendly fashion, and the celebration of the beauty of Ugandan craftsmanship. We create an interactive and reflective space where making, thinking, and sharing coexist as part of the same artistic ecology.
Wear your story, wear your heritage – Olugoye Lwo is more than just a garment, it is a statement.
Join the narrative.
