Science Fiction Lab – A research setting for exploring utopian ideas using augmented reality and AI

The AR Communities research project by Arts & Knowledges and gold extra, in collaboration with the Artificial Museum, explores how augmented reality (AR) and games can be used to shape participatory processes in public spaces. This has resulted in a range of accessible workshops: in the Science Fiction Lab, children and young people can playfully develop urban utopias and bring them to life in AR worlds, which they can then immediately explore using a tablet or smartphone. An AI interface transforms drawings into 3D objects.

The workshop programme combines the creative use of augmented reality and AI with the invention of utopian visions for public spaces.

On 26 September, the developers will provide an insight into the specially created AR editor and the AI interface, and invite participants to try them out, design and imagine utopian scenarios.
